The pcAnywhere 12.5 Software from Symantec is a remote access application for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Once installed on a computer, it allows pcAnywhere clients to access the machine over a network. This version of the software includes only the host; client software is not included. It is intended for users who already own the full version of pcAnywhere who would like to install the host on a second machine.
Supports Windows 2003, XP, and Vista, as well as Mac OS X 10.4 and later, and Linux
Simplified GUI interface makes connecting to remote systems easy
Secure file transfer and remote control capabilities
Supports systems with multiple monitors
Authenticates systems via Smartcards
Quick Connect applet provides 1-click access to frequent hosts
Smart card authentication:
Supports all PC/SC-compliant smart cards.
Native whiteboard support provides a two-way communication tool for a technician and an end user to collaborate. Standard drawing features are used to mark the screen for both users to see.
Simple and quick file transfer:
Use standard copy and paste commands to initiate file transfer.
Easy management of multiple sessions:
A dedicated tab displays thumbnails of all active sessions when multiple sessions are open. This thumbnail view allows users to jump directly to a session by clicking on the thumbnail or by navigating with keyboard shortcuts.
Support for multiple authentication types:
Now a single host configuration can use two authentication types. For example, Microsoft Active Directory users and local administrators can both authenticate to the same host.
Better performance in large Active Directory environments:
Searching for users in large Active Directory environments is less time-consuming. Users can be added directly through an edit box and validated. Local and administrator groups can be added to other authentication types.
More log details to meet compliance needs:
Logging, reporting, and notification have been enhanced. FQDN of computers in session, IP addresses, logged-in user names, keyboard and mouse status changes, and additional chat conversations are also logged.

In the end, pcAnywhere 12.5 certainly shines. The user interface is not as polished as I would prefer for a consumer application, but there is a wide array of powerful configuration options that are available. Performance was in line with the competition but, under the right circumstances, pcAnywhere 12.5 downright impressed us. It has incredible cross-platform support that should meet just about anyone's demands, and it even has a web interface that operates just like its web-based competitors.
