Adobe® Acrobat® 8 Standard software allows users to create, combine, and control Adobe PDF documents
for easy, more secure distribution and collaboration. Using Acrobat, you can
create an Adobe PDF document from a variety of applications, including Microsoft
Office, Outlook, Internet Explorer, or any application that prints. PDF technology
can easily convert documents, spreadsheets, slides, emails, websites, and more
into secure Adobe PDF files that preserve the original formatting of the originals.
Of course, you can share your PDF documents with anyone using free Adobe Reader® software.
The Acrobat 8 family helps users initiate, manage, and organize ad-hoc collaboration
by creating and sharing content-rich documents; combining multiple files
into a single, polished Adobe PDF document; managing and organizing feedback
to expedite document collaboration; collecting and exchanging high- value
information; and controlling document access with confidence.
The Acrobat family has been strengthened to help meet industry-specific requirements
regarding information sharing. New tools allow users to permanently remove
sensitive text, images, metadata, and other information in an Adobe PDF document.
Converting complex, large-format documents into Adobe PDF is significantly
faster, and industry-specific markup tools have been enhanced for easier use.
New shared reviews streamline collaboration. Review initiators can enable users
of free Adobe Reader 8 software to participate in shared reviews using intuitive
Acrobat commenting tools.

Pros: Flexible, feature-packed PDF creation, editing, commenting, and import-export. Can translate an entire Web site into a single multipage PDF. Can create and embed an index in PDF files for fast searching...Cons: Feature-packed interface makes some tools hard to find. More-costly Professional version required for creating fillable PDF forms. OCR module has problems with older documents. Bottom Line: Acrobat isn't cheap, but it's the gold standard for PDF editing.
